Hollister Swanson, M.D., is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist at Grand Rapids Ophthalmology, serving patients in Walker, East Beltline, and Kalamazoo. He specializes in the medical and surgical management of complex retinal conditions, including retinal detachment, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and other diseases of the retina. He also treats challenging complications from cataract surgery, manages neovascular glaucoma, and performs secondary intraocular lens procedures.
Dr Swanson is a proud Midwesterner with roots in Michigan, Missouri, and Nebraska. He provides compassionate, expert care to patients across the greater Grand Rapids area. He earned his undergraduate degree from Grand Valley State University and completed medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit. Driven by a passion for eye health, he pursued an internal medicine internship followed by an intensive ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal surgery fellowship, all at the University of Missouri–Kansas City.
Known for his approachable demeanor and meticulous surgical technique, Dr. Swanson is committed to delivering personalized, state-of-the-art care to every patient.
He lives in West Michigan with his wife, their son, two dogs, and a cat. Outside the clinic, he enjoys woodworking, gardening, and spending time outdoors—whether hiking, boating, or exploring Michigan’s natural beauty.
